Toen KISS in 1977 het podium van Nippon Budokan in Japan beklom met gitarist Ace Frehley op een Cherry Sunburst, een drie pick-up Les Paul Custom, was de band, de gitarist en de gitaar het toonbeeld van de glam-rock overdaad en succes van de jaren ’70.
Om de status van Ace Frehley als een rock icoon te vieren heeft Gibson Custom een strikt gelimiteerde oplage van 50 gemaakt van de Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom met een handtekening van Ace Frehley. Ook zijn er nog 100 hand-aged gitaren zonder handtekening verkrijgbaar en 150 gitaren die behandeld zijn met het z.g.n. Gibson Custom’s VOS process.
Er is ook nog een Ephiphone versie van de Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom en die heeft een adviesprijs van $1,332 en dat is ongeveer 1050,- euro.
